First flown October 18, 1933, the Grumman F2F was faster and more maneuverable than its predecessor, the FF-1 fighter. Mounting built-in watertight compartments to help pilots survive a water landing and armed with two 7.62mm machine guns, the U.S. Navy was impressed enough to order 54 aircraft in 1935. Able to operate from carriers and airstrips alike, the F2F served as a frontline fighter for five years before its replacement by the F3F. The F2F design and its successors were the last biplane fighters used by the Navy, while Grumman went on to design excellent monoplanes which saw service during World War II.

In-game, the F2F has a potent armament and is able to bank and change directions quickly. Its resemblance to a barrel is fitting, because it has a good roll rate as well! Use your great performance at medium altitude to outmaneuver your foes and rack up the damage!
