This weekend, we mark the momentous battle of Kohima, which took place in Northeast India when a massive Japanese assault was conducted on Kohima Ridge in an attempt to cut the British supply line to Imphal. Fierce fighting took place for several months, with the battle being referred to as "The Stalingrad of the East."

The ridge was held by a much smaller British force until a relief and counter-attack by British and Indian troops forced the Japanese to retreat and reopened the road.
