The Kyushu J7W1 Shinden was designed as a land-based interceptor to counter the growing threat of the B-29 Superfortress. Although the J7W1 never made it further than the prototype phase, the canard design of this aircraft combined with its 4x30mm cannons would have made life much harder for pilots flying the Superfortress over the Japanese isles.
