Pilots!
High quality graphics help make the planes in World of Warplanes look fantastic, but nothing compares to getting a chance to see some of these classic aircraft up close or in flight. Below is a collection of airshows that are happening around the country so you can have the chance to do just that. If there are any we missed, feel free to take some time to comment in the forum thread and let us know so we'll keep this article updated all month long.
While Aviation Day is a small, leisurely paced and family oriented one-day Airport Open House type event, where the visitor is encouraged to get close to the aircraft, to talk to the pilots, and find out how they too can build their own aircraft, the Vero Beach Air Show will feature a full weekend of military tactical demonstrations, civilian aerobatic performances, and all of the thrills and excitement you would expect at a major air show event.
The 2013 MCAS Airshow is appropriately themed, “Saluting our brave and time-honored Korean and Vietnam War Veterans.” The event will encompass static displays from the Korean and Vietnam War eras, modern aircraft displays- to include the first time public display of the F-35B II Joint Strike Fighter, live air performances, and more.
This event is centered around classic aircraft and will feature a number of flying acts. Notable for this year will be a Pearl Harbor reenactment that will feature several vintage aircraft in flight.
In addition to the Blue Angels, there will be several other military flight demonstrations and civilian performances. There will also be a wide variety of field exhibits and hands-on displays will be available for the education and entertainment of air show attendees. Included among these are vintage as well as state-of-the air military static aircraft, historical displays and exhibits presented by military and aviation enthusiasts.
A number of performers will be on display like the Silver Wings Jump Team, US Army Infantry, and vintage warbirds taking to the skies.
New to the show this year is “Skip Stewart” an aerobatics performer, and “The Flight of Phoenix – Escadrille”, which is two T-6’s flying in formation. Randy Henderson will be flying “The Texas T-Cart” and Paul Fiala will fly his Bi-Plane “The Barnstormer”.
The theme in 2013 will be the 70th Anniversary of Robert Morgan and his crew of the Memphis Belle making their 25th mission and getting to go home -- we will be honoring them and all B-17s and their pilots and crews that helped win WWII. We hope to have two B-17s on hand for the Airshow.
The incredible maneuvers that the Blue Angels perform are actually the same fundamental maneuvers that are employed in aerial combat. We have also selected very special civilian performers for the Southernmost Air Spectacular. The performers that you see today have spent thousands of hours developing their amazing and exciting aerobatic acts. Spectacular flying, static displays, a Kid’s Zone, souvenirs and concessions – there is no better way to spend a day with family and friends!
High-speed military jets and acrobatic performers will roar into Punta Gorda Airport in Punta Gorda on March 23 and 24. This year’s show offers new and unique performers, exhibits and displays. Don’t miss seeing exciting and death-defying stunts performed by some of the best pilots in the business. Enjoy expanded aircraft exhibits, displays, a kids' area, and refreshments. Join us for one of the best Air Shows in the country.
