This week’s event is a grand one because of the historic event that it commemorates. Eighty years ago, on June 6, 1944, thousands of Allied troops landed on the beaches of Normandy in a huge-scale invasion known as Operation Overlord. This event came to be considered the beginning of the end of World War II. This weekend, we pay homage to the brave souls who fought valiantly, often sacrificing their lives, to make the invasion a success and put an end to the Nazi regime in Europe.
