When Sergey Ilyushin was born in rural Dilyalevo in March, 1894, no one expected he would become one of the leading aeronautical engineers of the Soviet Union. From humble beginnings, Ilyushin went on to design a multitude of different planes, though he's best-known for the indomitable Ilyushin IL-2, the most-produced combat aircraft of WWII.
