A veteran of World War II and the Korean War, the F4U Corsair had the longest production run of any piston-powered fighter in U.S. aviation history. Originally designed as a carrier-based fighter, it was supplanted by the F6F Hellcat and soon found its niche as a land-based aircraft for the U.S. Marines.
