Witness the Ilyushin IL-40P, a jet-engine attack aircraft from the Soviet Union, debuting in 1953 on the heels on the original IL-40. While not a prolific aircraft -- only five production craft were made before its program was canceled -- it was on its way to becoming a fierce warbird, as its design addressed a number of construction issues.
