Pilots!

Get to know Lindy, member of a real-life soldier training brigade, and awesome pilot! He is helpful on the forums and in real-life too! We got to learn a little bit by asking him some questions via email, and we must say we are pretty impressed!

Lindy's Interview

How long have you been a gamer?

Probably around 12 years now, I had an Atari 2600 when I was a kid, but as far as PC gaming I got kind of started late I didn’t play an online game until 2004/05.

What are some of your hobbies and activities?

I love motorcycles, I have several vintage bikes and work on them myself, and it has been from a childhood passion. I’m also into music it’s an important part of my life, mostly punk but I enjoy a large variety. Guns and History are another favorite past time. I also enjoy trying to take care of myself; I’m an avid runner and mountain biker

What was your first MMO experience?

World of Tanks I guess, I have mostly played FPSs

Where are you from?

Originally Florida, but lived all over Tennessee, Illinois, Alaska, Germany, Korea and now Virginia

Do you have any military or aviation experience?

I have been in the US Army now for over 19 years; I’m currently serving as the Branch Chief for C Co 2-210 AVN REG at Ft Eustis, Virginia. We are a training brigade; the company that I’m in provides training for initial entry Soldiers as well as NCOs and Warrant Officers. We provide training on Aircraft Propulsion, Powertrain, Airframe repair and Pneudraulic systems.

Some of the highlights of my career so far have been the time I have spent with the Bundeswehr! Several field and live fire exercises as a joint partnership and training for their rotation to Afghanistan. I had such a great time and made some lifelong friends.

Another highlight career wise was being awarded a Bronze Star for actions during my second tour in Iraq, which is something I’m very proud of. There are many other things throughout my career that has a special meaning to me as it’s the only thing I have really known in my adult life.

How long have you been playing World of Warplanes?

Since October 2012, I applied to be a tester quite a while back, but as most took some time to be selected.

What are some recent accomplishments you had in game?

I double aced my A6M1, and my I-16 Late, which to be honest has a lot to do with luck, first you have to have at least ten planes on the opposing team, then it’s just a matter of killing fast. Other than that I don’t know being selected as a Community Ace; probably the biggest accomplishment for me is getting to fly with some of the best in this game and being accepted as a competent pilot.  That means a lot to me I know I’m not a good gamer I have to really work hard and always watch and try and learn from others.

What are your favorite planes?

A6M1, A6M5, ME 410, He100, BF109G, P51A, and F4U probably the top of my list, but there are another dozen that I like to fly. Mostly prop planes but flying jets once in a while is cool with me, a different play style.

What are your favorite aspects of the game?

I like the quick pace, edge of your seat excitement the game provides also the competition, I’m always trying to learn and get better

What about WoWP appeals to you?

Well I have always loved WW2 era piston and propeller aircraft so naturally the planes drew me to it, the people as well. One of the things that has amazed me about online gaming is the people, there are real life pilots both military and civilian playing this game and a multitude of others that are successful in their career fields or truly amazing college level young folks. I have met some very interesting players here.

Do you have any advice for new players?

I’m not sure I’m in the position to offer advice but I would say if you like the game, stay with it. There is a learning curve don’t get frustrated. Don’t rush into combat, attack on your terms and have some type of strategy. Watch the good players try and flight with them if you can and just see how they operate; there is a lot to be learned. Work on your energy management, this is a key to being good in this game (and something I’m still trying to figure out)

What’s your favorite map and why?

I think I only know the names of two of the maps, there’s things in games I just don’t pay attention to this is one of them. I would say I enjoy all the maps.
